Biography

I trained as a teacher of music and after teaching in schools became Director of the Music School at Douglas Academy Milngavie. I moved to RSAMD (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) as Director of the Junior Academy of Music then becoming Associate Director of the senior Academy. In addition to my career in musical education, I developed my career as professional accompanist, organist, choral trainer, adjudicator and examiner.

I now concentrate on a freelance career and find that I am in demand as an accompanist, organist and choral trainer, vocal and instrumental coach, repetiteur and teacher.

My musical qualifications cover performance and teaching in Piano, Organ, Singing and Voice Training. I hold the following diplomas: Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, Fellow of Trinity College of Music London, Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, Associate of the Royal College of Music, Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Fellow of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

In 2001 Walter Blair was given an honorary Fellowship of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (FRSAMD) now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and in the 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours, was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to music.
